NARBOROUGH TREE PLANTING
On a bracing but sunny early December morning, a group of volunteers from the Parish Council (and a couple of extras who’d been roped into the task!) gathered in a corner of the six-acre field on The Pastures to plant some trees in what is hoped will be the start of many new additions to the area. Our resident gardening expert George was there, along with other members of the Parish Council who not only planned the project but who also took a ‘hands-on’ approach by picking up a spade and digging holes for 15 trees!
All the species planted are native to Britain, a mixture of Field Maple, Wild Cherry, Silver Birch and Rowen. They were all donated by Stepping Stones at County Hall under the free trees scheme.
By midday all the trees were successfully planted and everyone stood back and admired their handy work with a cup of coffee and the first mince pie of the festive season! The corner of the field was transformed and in the New Year there are plans to plant bulbs amongst the trees, including bluebells and daffodils, with the help of local schoolchildren from Red Hill Field.
There are many ideas for future additions to the field, but until recently very few plans could be put into action because the field was suffering a drainage problem, which has now been addressed. Ideas which have been suggested are the placement of benches, a sensory garden, a trail-running track and an area for use by local parents and babies. The Parish council is always open to suggestions, and if there is something you’d like to see then get in touch with them, Parish Clerk Doug Maas will be happy to receive your suggestions and comments. We look forward to seeing the young trees and flowers progress over the New Year.
